January 14, 1910 Farmington News Article Covering Devastating Barker Block Fire
Farmington News article covering the the fire at the Barker Block at Main and Central Streets. The early morning fire started around 1am and spread quickly. The wreckage at the Barker Block was enormous. The 1910 fire destroyed the Barker Block as well as the adjoining E. T. Wilson Block. The W.F. Thayer Block and Hussey Block were also severely damaged. A grocery, millinery store, clothing store, hardware store, the American express office, as well as one law office were destroyed. The First Congregational Church nearby and was largely undamaged, with the exception of the leaded glass windows which were somewhat damaged. Property loss was estimated at $75,000, making it the worst disaster in thirty-five years at the time. The J.F Hall building, Odd Fellows Block, the Fernald building , and Small Block, nearby, were all saved by fireman dousing the buildings consistently to prevent spreading of the fire.

A selection of Beulah Thayer 100th birthday celebration photos, mementos, and cards. Some of the items are store bought, which means mass produced. Many are also hand made. Each one has personal sentiments and often a signature from townspeople, friends, and family members who wished to offer congratulations, thoughts, memories, and to extend community support from becoming a centenarian. The child cards often include art and talk about themselves, or their aspirations. A few are hand written or typed letters. One item, from he White House, includes well wishes from President and First Lady Obama.

In previous periods the hotel was commonly called the "Central House." The article details origins, the many owners over more than a century, historical details, and details about some of the owners.

A March 29, 1838 handwritten letter, in ink, by Cordelia W. Edgerly in Farmington, NH, to son James Edgerly, aslo of Farmington,NH. The letter contains advice to her son, mainly on faith, and how he is fortunate. His younger brother Henry is mentioned in the letter. The letter is folded so the paper creates an envelope for delivery, thus protecting the "enclosed letter."
Size: 7"x12.25" Fold out adds 7.5" to width.
Condition:Good considering age. General fading Spotting. Multiple folds and creases. Small tears.

1869 Handwritten Martha Safford Letter & Envelope
1869 letter to Martha Safford of Farmington NH, sent from her sister Bella. The letter is written on plain paper, with black ink. The handwriting is a beautiful script, but grammar slips sometimes and there are several writing cross outs.. The letter opens with pleasantries and regret for having not written Martha sooner. In the document she discusses Martha going to school, boarding with her aunt, a sister Marie, and coming to visit Bella and her mother.
Condition: Good. Paper is in good condition, but the ink is beginning to noticeably fade.

Information on the 1899 apothecary W.W. Roberts in Farmington, New Hampshire. Information is located on pages 11 and 12. <br /><br />The information reads: <span class="markedContent" id="page74R_mcid6"><br /><br /></span><em>Dr. King’s, a nationally distributed brand based in Indiana, marketed their products by printing special</em><br /><em>tabloid newspapers for local distribution during the holidays. Published in 1899 for local apothecary</em><br /><em>W.W. Roberts in Farmington, New Hampshire, one issue of the Farmington Holiday Druggist (“devoted</em><br /><em>to health, business, and science”) featured Christmas stories and advice interspersed with ads for Dr.</em><br /><em>King’s projects (Plates 3).
