An Embroidered J S Paris Postcard Sent To Mrs Frank Martineau Farmington NH
Description
An account of the resource
A hand embroidered, color silk, J S Paris postcard sent to Mrs Frank Martineau on Bridge Street, NH, with best wishes from Fred. Mr and Mrs Martineau are mentioned in the Farmington historical record, but not in association with a Bridge Street. The silk embroidery is of the sun coming over the horizon surrounded by vegetation of some kind with a line of leaves and flowers below them. Also embroidered underneath this motif is a saying: "Greetings from the Trenches." This was a common saying from the first World War.
This item is stained over the whole body of the object, on both sides. The writing on the back of the card is fading, or completely obscured, though the embroidery is in fair condition given the age of the item.

Sabine Home Charles Street Black & White Souvenir Postcard Farmington NH
Description
An account of the resource
A black & white souvenir postcard of the Sabine home on Charles Street in Farmington, NH. A typical New Englander, The Sabine home was two full stories, plus the attic space. The building has a small covered front entrance and two bay windows, one over another, in the front right. There is a single window, which is covered, in the attic floor and it is unknown if this was used for storage or sleeping space. The side of the house offers many windows and a side entrance via a covered open porch and further back covered screened porch. Detail work, beams, fretwork, and decorative shingles all appear to be in very good condition and well maintained. The house has two chimneys. The house also has a three story, attached, carriage house to the right. Flowers, shrubs and other plantings pepper the front and side yard. A young girl, wearing a dress, stands on the top step of the side porch looking toward the camera.

1910 Barker Block Fire Sepia Souvenir Postcard Farmington NH
Description
An account of the resource
A Barker Block colorized souvenir postcard depicting the fire at the Barker Block at Main and Central Streets. The wreckage in the foreground is enormous. The businesses lining Main Street can be seen in the background with dozens of people in front of them and a few people are in the foreground looking at the damage. The trees lining Main Street have no leaves confirming the January date. The First Congregational Church stands in the background, right undamaged. The 1910 fire destroyed the Barker Block as well as the adjoining E. T. Wilson Block. The W.F. Thayer block was also severely damaged.

Sepia Souvenir Postcard Old Stone Lobby Farmington NH
Description
An account of the resource
A sepia souvenir postcard of the "Old Stone Lobby," downtown Farmington, NH. The sepia photograph focuses on the rear of the building. The photo is smaller than the size of the postcard. A sister photograph in the collection appears to be from a different period as the planting and trees surrounding the stone lobby do not match one another. The lobby was at the juncture of Church and Union Streets.
The stone lobby was to be finished by noon on October 6, 1859. It was commissioned by Colonel Louis Bell. The cost of the land, labor and structure was either $175 or $375. There are two competing documents on this. If it had not been completed by that date by William H. Sampson, the town Stonemason, would forfeit $10 weekly until complete. It was never finished as intended, as the American Civil War began during construction.
First intended as a jail to temporarily hold county accused, then intended to be used to temporarily hold town lawless. It is unclear if it was ever actually used for either of those purposes. The building was used for livestock. It was razed and the stones repurposed in 1950.
It is said the structure was 10" by 10' and about 6.5' high. Inside two spaces 2' by 6' were on one side. It had 2' windows and 3/4" iron bars over the windows and doorway.
